I have a month of queue going on, due to travelling and mind-broadening stuff. The truth is out there, and so is a lot of bullshit, but that just fertilises the truth.

at monash university in melbourne the women’s department had a bake sale and cupcakes were one dollar for men and eighty cents for women and seventy cents for trans* people to represent the wage gap and heaps of guys kicked off about it being sexist and that’s how i finally understood how hypocritical and ignorant men’s rights activism is

to be fair that is pretty darn sexist… why cant stuff just be EQUAL for everyone?

image

The problem is it’s not even accurate. There is no gender-based wage gap in Australia; studies have shown that women and men with the same qualifications and experience, in the same situation, earn the same. The difference is in whether or not the workers have kids. Both men’s and women’s wages drop if they have children compared to their childless counterparts, but women’s wages drop a lot more than the men’s wages do. The question is whether this is structural discrimination or simply average child-rearing habits - I think it’s probably a bit of both.

Also, childless women tended to earn more — 14-17% more — than their childless male counterparts. So Monash should have asked the women buying the cupcakes if they had kids, and if they didn’t then charge them $1.15.

They disappoint me too. They’re hardly ever good value for the price, and the warranty sucks.
